With 100 million sign-ups in only 5 days, Meta's new social platform, Threads, is the fastest growing app to date. Considered by many to be a "Twitter Alternative" it's designed as a feed with text-based posts. It combines the real-time conversational aspect of Twitter with Instagram's visual appeal, where photos and videos can also be uploaded to complement the text posts.
Threads presents a unique opportunity for businesses to amplify their brand visibility, foster meaningful conversations, and drive customer engagement.
Let's dive into a couple tips to help you get started!
1. Start conversations. Make connections.
Your Threads posts should be focused on starting conversations and making connections. Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri posted::
"For those of you trying to think about what to post here on Threads versus on Instagram, my take is it's less about text versus photos and videos and more about what public conversations you want to have. Do you want to engage in more of a back and forth, Threads make sense. If not, great, probably Instagram..."
2. Post links, gifs and text.
Unlike Instagram, Threads gives you the option to post links, text-only messages, and animated gifs. Here's a list of what's allowed:
Links
Text only (max of 500 characters)
.gifs (along with Giphy app)
Images and Photos (max of 10)
Videos (max of 5 min.)
Carousels
3. Do not use hashtags.
While there are future updates in the pipeline, hashtags are not a current feature. Here are a list of features Threads does not support:
Hashtags
Pinned posts
Direct messages (DMs)
Ads
4. Jump in. The water's fine.
Dive in early while there is still so much hype around the app. Threads presents a valuable opportunity for businesses to start meaningful conversations with both potential and existing customers, so it will only be beneficial for you to start creating an account now.
